About Backrooms Craft
Backrooms Craft is a free online first-person survival and building game set in the endless yellow corridors of the Backrooms. Everything is made of blocks, so you can mine walls, floors, and furniture, then use what you gather to craft tools, torches, and weapons. The goal is to build a shelter you can light and defend, because something is always lurking just beyond the next doorway.
The deeper you go, the stranger the levels become, from damp-carpet hallways to flooded poolrooms, humming server halls, offices, and warehouses. Some creatures only watch from a distance, while others follow you, so you have to mind your health, hunger, and the batteries in your torch. Remember that only what you build inside the start zone is kept.

Mining and Crafting
Almost everything in the Backrooms can be mined, and the blocks you collect feed into a crafting grid. The inventory screen shows a Recipes panel on the left, a small crafting grid with an output slot, and slots for the gear you wear on your head, body, and feet. New recipes appear when you pick up a new material, so exploring pays off, and a workbench lets you place items in larger patterns, such as three sticks placed vertically to make a chair leg.
Objectives and Your Base
A short objective sits in the top left corner of the screen, such as Make a chair leg, with the next steps listed underneath, like collecting steel scrap and making a pry bar. A Return to Base button on the B key takes you back to the start zone, where a shelter, chairs, and a lamp can turn a bare room into somewhere safe. Only what you build inside this start zone is kept, so it is worth investing your best work there.
Health, Hunger, and Light
Three rows of icons above the hotbar track your health, your hunger, and your water, and a number between them marks your current level. Your torch runs on batteries, so keeping some spare is as important as having food in your bag. When something dangerous is close, the ceiling lights can flicker red, giving you a clear warning to stop, back away, or prepare for a fight.
The Journal
The Journal on the J key is a notebook that records what you discover, with tabs for Levels, Anomalies, Entities, Finds, and a Kit. The Levels page lists 17 areas, each marked as logged once you have visited it, such as Level 0, the Poolrooms, and the Bathroom, with a field sketch and a short note. Filling it in gives you a goal beyond survival, because every new level, creature, and find adds to your documented total.
Tips for Surviving the Backrooms
- Follow the objective in the corner to learn the crafting basics before you wander too far from base.
- Keep spare torch batteries and food in your hotbar so a long trip never leaves you in the dark.
- Watch for red ceiling lights, which warn you that a threat is close by.
- Build and decorate inside the start zone, since only what you place there is kept.
