Scale the Depths
About Scale the Depths
Scale the Depths is a free online pixel-art fishing adventure that turns a quiet trip out to sea into a relaxing, rewarding routine. Pick a spot, send your hook down into the water, and weave it carefully past rocks and drifting creatures to hook as many fish as your line can carry. Once your catch is aboard, you head to the kitchen to clean it, turn it into meat, and feed the hungry sea creatures that float up beside your boat.
The loop is gentle but satisfying, with fish, meat, bait, and coins all tracked at the top of the screen. Every trip earns money you can pour back into better gear, so each new run reaches deeper and brings back more than the last one.

Fishing the Depths
Once you drop your line, the view switches to an underwater scene where you steer the hook left and right as it sinks. A small panel in the corner tracks your total catch against your carrying limit, the fish gained on the current dive, and how much of your line length you have used. Fish of many shapes and sizes swim through ledges of seaweed and rock, and brushing the hook against them adds them to your haul, so careful steering is what separates a full bag from an empty one.
The Boat and the Kitchen
Back on deck, three markers show where you can go on your boat: Fish to start another dive, Cabin to head below, and Feed to look after the creatures waiting at the rail. In the kitchen, you slide a knife across each catch to remove its scales and turn it into fish meat, and the game reminds you that rushing the cut damages the fish and lowers its value. A slower, steadier pass gives you cleaner meat, which means more reward for the same catch.
Feeding Sea Creatures
Visitors such as an osprey and a selkie appear beside the boat, each with a percentage bar showing how far along they are. Spend the meat you prepared to feed them, and if you try without any, the game tells you there is no fish meat to give. Keeping a stock of prepared meat on hand makes it easy to feed whoever shows up next.
Upgrades and Exploring New Waters
The Upgrade menu offers three tools to improve with coins: the Knife, which raises cutting damage, the Rod, which lengthens your line so you can reach deeper water, and the Hook, which increases hook damage. Each shows its current level and the cost of the next upgrade. A map screen also lets you pick between islands to visit, with some locations opening by claiming a bonus, so there is always another destination to unlock.
Tips for Bigger Hauls
- Upgrade the Rod early, since a longer line lets you reach deeper water where more fish swim.
- Take your time with the knife in the kitchen, because a slow cut keeps fish in good condition and worth more.
- Keep some prepared meat in reserve so you can feed new visitors the moment they arrive.
- Steer the hook around the rocky ledges rather than straight down, so you pass close to more fish on the way.
