Choosing a Campaign
The Select Campaign menu offers seven historical battles, including Normandy 1944, Stalingrad 1942, Berlin 1945, Battle of Shanghai 1937, Hundred Regiments 1940, Burma Road 1944, and Outskirts of Moscow 1941. Each campaign lists its own battle type, from Assault and Conquest to Demolition, along with a short description of the terrain and conditions you'll be fighting through, such as Stalingrad's harsh winter street fighting or Burma Road's jungle infiltration.
Classes and Loadouts

Vehicles, Artillery, and Squads
Tanks in Steel Front use directional armor and penetration physics, meaning shots to the sides, rear, or weak spots matter far more than a straight frontal hit. Open-top vehicle crews can be hit directly, grenades can land inside open compartments, and tank destroyers have limited traverse requiring you to rotate the whole hull to aim. Mortars and AA guns can be operated by anyone pressing F near them, and squad members automatically enter your vehicle when nearby, making coordinated pushes with tanks and infantry together a core part of taking objectives.
Battle Setup Options
Before deploying to the battlefield, the Play Game menu lets you select your Faction between Allies and Axis, set Bot Difficulty across Recruit, Veteran, and Elite, and choose a Battle Size ranging from Standard 11v11 up to Epic 22v22. These settings let you scale the intensity and scope of a match to match how much time and challenge you're looking for in a single session.
Tips for Battlefield Success
- Target the sides or rear of enemy tanks rather than the front, since directional armor makes frontal hits far less effective.
- Use the Medic or Engineer class abilities to support your squad directly, since deployed medical crates and fortifications can turn a losing push around.
- Follow squad Attack Mark and Follow Me orders to stay coordinated with your team rather than pushing objectives alone.
- Switch between infantry, vehicle, and artillery roles depending on what the current sector fight actually needs rather than sticking to one playstyle all match.
